Abstract:

Wandering spleen is a rare condition , which is characterized by excessive mobility of spleen , due to absence or lack of its suspensor ligaments , in which the spleen migrate from it’s normal position (left upper abdomen) to lower abdomen , and even into pelvis. The case was a 94-year young woman , admitted to Imam Khomeini Hospital with colic abdominal pain , without any previous history. On examination , wandering spleen was diagnosed and Surgery (Laparatomy) was recommended , but during Laparatomy , necrosis ( gangrenous ) of spleen was observed , and subsequently spleenectomy was performed

The wandering spleen.

Wandering spleen is a rare condition that commonly presents with splenic infarction secondary to torsion. Splenectomy was previously advocated as the treatment of choice, though recent reports suggest that the organ may be distorted, and splenopexy performed. This paper documents how the latter procedure may be done using adherent omentum.
